Illuminating our coastal and marine environments has allowed us to increase our productivity in these areas and given us a sense of safety. Yet, our activities have also influenced marine ecosystems as artificial light at night, or ALAN for short, has become more widespread. ALAN and marine lightscapes are ongoing areas of study, especially on how marine ecosystems respond to light pollution.
