Type: Video
Language: English

This video (2 min) explores Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) which is produced by all types of vessels and is a major contributor to noise pollution in oceans and rivers. Unfortunately, URN can disrupt and cause changes in anatomy, development, behaviour, and physiological stress levels in marine mammals, fish, reptiles, and invertebrates — effects which can sometimes be lethal. In November 2022, SATURN researchers from TSI (Técnicas y Servicios de Ingeniería S.L.) traveled to Gran Canaria to measure the noise produced by a vessel in both deep and shallow water.

In English with English subtitles.
